Presidents of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan Discuss Bilateral Cooperation

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a telephone conversation with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on May 5.

The parties during the conversation paid special attention to the practical implementation of the agreements reached at the highest level.

The strengthening of strategic partnership and alliance between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan and the growing dynamics of trade and economic cooperation was noted with satisfaction.

The trade turnover and the number of joint projects and enterprises are increasing. The construction of a border trade and logistics zone is underway. Active cultural and humanitarian exchanges continue as well. The first Forum of Rectors of the leading universities of the two countries was held in Dushanbe in March.

The Presidents of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan noted the importance of preparing the agenda for the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission and the Second Forum of Regions to accelerate ongoing cooperation projects and develop new areas of practical interaction.

Views were exchanged on issues of regional cooperation, including in the context of preparations for the upcoming Fifth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia.

A schedule of the upcoming events was also considered.
