Population of Tajikistan in a Year Has Increased by Almost 200 Thousand

The population of Tajikistan, taking into account the registration of births, deaths and migration, as of July 1 of this year amounted to 10 million 163.4 thousand people, the country’s statistical department reports. 

This is 1,9% (195 thousand people) more in comparison to the same period in 2022.

The number of population in the regions of the country by the beginning of the second half of the year was as follows:

Khatlon region – 3 million 649.3 thousand people;

Sughd region – 2 million 889.4 thousand people;

Districts of republican subordination – 2 million 163.6 thousand people;

Dushanbe – 1 million 228.4 thousand people;

GBAO – 232.7 thousand people.

The share of the capital in the total population of the country in one year (from July 1, 2022 to July 1, 2023) increased from 9.3% to 12.1%, and the share of all four regions, on the contrary, decreased.

The average annual population growth in Tajikistan over the past decade has been about 2.4%, while the population of our planet as a whole has increased by an average of 1.5%.

Earlier, with reference to World Bank data, it was reported that the highest population growth among the former republics of the Soviet Union for 30 years after their independence was recorded in Tajikistan – 76.6%.
