The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has revised its expectations for Tajikistan’s exports of goods and services for 2023 and 2024, Trend reports.
The IMF forecasts that Tajikistan’s exports of goods and services will reach $1.6 billion in 2023, which is a decrease from $1.7 billion projected in May 2023.
However, the long-term outlook is more positive. For 2024, the October forecast anticipates Tajikistan’s exports to reach $2 billion, whereas in May, it was predicted to be $1.8 billion.
In 2022, according to the IMF, Tajikistan’s exports of goods and services amounted to $1.8 billion. This was lower than $2.2 billion in 2021 but higher than $1.4 billion in 2020 and $900,000 in 2019.
In August, the head of the country’s Customs Service, Khurshed Karimzoda, said that Tajikistan’s external trade turnover amounted to $3.4 billion in the first half of the year, which was $324.7 million, or 9 percent, lower than the same period ($3.7 billion).
Imported goods into the country significantly exceeded the volume of exports. Specifically, imports of goods amounted to $2.7 billion, which was $414.7 million, or 18 percent, higher than the first six months of 2022 ($2.3 million).
Exports reached $653.3 million, which was $739.4 million, or 53 percent, lower than the previous year when it stood at $1.3 billion.
