BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 13 Active work is underway on the construction of the Obigarm-Nurobod highway in Tajikistan.
This was reported to Trend in the representative office of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Tajikistan.
To support the government of Tajikistan in the construction of the Obigarm-Nurobod highway, the bank approved a $110 million grant in December 2019.
“There were some delays in the implementation of the project due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the work is currently continuing successfully. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024,” the ADB office in Tajikistan noted.
ADB and the OPEC Fund for International Development are co-financing the construction of a section of the Obigarm-Tagikamar road about 30 km long, including 2 tunnels of 1.6 km and 1.7 km. In addition, the project also includes the rehabilitation of 11 roads in rural areas with a length of about 30 km.
“The Obigarm-Nurobod road project is a strategic priority for the government of Tajikistan from both a national and a regional point of view. The road is part of important international corridors,” the ADB in Tajikistan said in a statement.
Note that the Chinese company Hunan Road & Bridge Construction Company is the main contractor for construction work; JV Temelsu LTD & CTI (Turkey-Japan) – construction control consultant; and Dainichi Inc. from Japan – project management.
